Mark 6:30-34; 53-56
Step I: Initial Acquaintance
(DH) C. ROUGH TRANSLATION
30 And the apostles are gathering toward/near Jesus, and they told to him
everything, as many as they did [had done] and as many as they [had]
taught. 31 And he is saying to them: "Come, y'all yourselves, alone,
into a deserted place and rest/relax a little bit!" For there were the
coming ones and the going ones, many, and [there was] not even an opportune
moment to eat.
32 And they went away in the boat into a deserted place, alone/privately.
33 And many saw them, while going away, and after recognizing [them], even
on foot/by land from all the cities they ran together there and they
arrived before them. 34 And after going out, he saw a great crowd and he
had compassion on them, because they were 'like sheep not having a
shepherd,' and he began to teach them many things.
[I find it very odd that the lectionary suggests breaking up the pericope
about the feeding of the five-thousand--jumping over ten verses. The
Nestle-text suggests to take the pericope through verse 44. Why start a
new pericope (vv. 53-56)? Any thoughts on this from you web site users out
there? - DH]
