(DH) C. ROUGH TRANSLATION
14 And heard [it] the king Herod, for having been made manifest [having
known] became the name of him, and he was saying that John the Baptizer had
been raised from [the] dead, and on account of this are working the powers
in him. 15 But others were saying that Elijah it was/is; but others were
saying that a prophet like one of the prophets [it was]. (cf. Mk 8:28ff.)
16 But, after having heard [this], Herod was saying: "Whom I beheaded,
John, this one has been raised."
17 For Herod himself, after having sent, arrested John and bound him in
prison on account of Herodias, the wife of Philip his brother, because he
married her. 18 For John was saying continuously to Herod that it was not
lawful for him to have the wife of his brother. 19 But Herodias was
hostile towards him and wished him to be killed [wanted that he was
killed], and/but she was not able. 20 For Herod was fearing John
continuously, knowing him [that he was] a man righteous and holy, and he
protected him, and after having heard him, he was disturbed about many
things, and gladly to him he listened.
21 And after a timely day had come when Herod the for the births of him
gave a feast for his people of high status and for the high ranking
military officers and for the first ones [leaders] of Galilee, 22 and
after his daughter Herodias [possibly: the daughter of Herodias herself]
having come in and having danced, she pleased Herod and the ones who sat
with him at table [the guests]. The king said to the girl: "Ask me
whatever you wish, and I will give [it] to you." 23 And he swore to her
many things: "Whatever you ask me I will give to you, even half of my
kingdom." 24 And after she had gone out, she said to her mother: "What
shall I ask?"" But the one said: "[Ask for] the head of John the
Baptizer." 25 And immediately, after having entered with haste toward the
king, she asked, saying: "I wish that this very moment you give to me upon
a platter the head of John the Baptizer." 26 And after having become very
sad, the king, on account of the vows and the guests [the ones who sat at
table with him], did not wish to refuse her. 27 And immediately, after
having sent, the king commanded a soldier to bring the head of him. And
after having gone away, he beheaded him in the prison 28 and brought the
head of him upon a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it
the her mother. 29 And after having heard, the disciples of him came and
took his body and put it in a tomb.
